Our Journey

Orchard Rock was created with a simple belief: technology should make legal practice easier, not more complicated. For many years we have worked alongside solicitors and legal teams, helping them improve processes, reduce friction, and solve practical problems that affect day-to-day work.

That experience has shown us that the biggest challenges are rarely caused by a lack of effort. More often they arise from disconnected systems, inconsistent processes, and tools that were never designed around the realities of legal practice. By working closely with our clients, listening carefully, and responding to real operational needs, we have developed a reputation for practical solutions and dependable support.

The idea of Temperature emerged from those conversations. We repeatedly saw that firms could describe the inherent risk of a matter, but struggled to describe how confident they were in the way that risk was being managed. Good actions were often spoken about as if they changed the original risk itself. Temperature provided a clearer language: risk remains visible, while confidence in its management can increase or decrease as evidence is gathered, processes are completed, and oversight is applied.

Smartguard is the natural result of that journey. It brings together our experience in legal technology, compliance, and client collaboration to provide a clearer way of assessing and managing risk. Our aim has never been to automate professional judgement; it is to amplify it by giving legal professionals better information, better visibility, and a more consistent framework for discussion and oversight.
